Happy 'early' Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Happy Monday! As February comes to a close and March begins, we will take time on Friday, March 1st to participate in Read Across america Day with our Preschool Buddies. If your child has any Dr. Seuss books at home, please send one or two in that day. We will read with our buddies and enjoy a small snack. Oh the Places You Can Go when enjoying a good book with yummy snacks and in good company,  too!

Looking ahead....
  • Saturday, March 2nd - Funfest from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm 
  • Wednesday, March 6th - Ash Wednesday Mass - Lent begins

English Language Arts



The students will have a spelling test on Thursday, February 28th. They will only have one task this week to complete for homework. It will still be due Thursday.

Reading - This week's skill is Sequence of Events. We will work on composing a summary of the story in paragraph form as a way to sequence the events in a story. We will also look at this week's vocabulary words. Students will have vocabulary homework that will be due Wednesday. We will have time to start it in class.

Writing - Last week, we worked on writing two different poems: a Friend one and a President one. Both turned out amazing!

Grammar - We will continue to look at Adjectives. We ran out of time to look at Adverbs, so we will start that this week.

ALL Cereal Box projects are due Thursday, February 28th! Please remember to read ALL the directions with your kiddo because they will have need to be able to present a brief commercial on their person in front of the class. We will present on Thursday and Friday. If more time is needed, we will have presentations go into next week as well. 

Social Studies 

The students visited the computer lab last week to begin work on their Google Slides presentation. It is a collaborative project, where 4 students are working in the same Google presentation. The magic of Google! We will take a break this week from working on it to hear our commercials from the book projects.

Math 

We are starting our next module, which is all about Fractions.

Our x8s test will be Thursday, February 28th.

Science

We will finish up our Circuit Quiz Board.

Geometry 

We will be using protractors to measure and construct angles.

Religion 

It is our official kickoff for Stations of the Cross. The students will receive their roles. If your child is a reader, please practice with them. If your child is in the choir or playing the iPad, please encourage them to practice at home. If your child is an actor, discuss with them the importance of taking their role seriously and reverently.

Stations of the Cross are Friday, April 12th at 9:30 AM in the Church. Please be on the look out for a permission slip.

Happy President's Day

Hello and Happy Tuesday !

We have a four day school week ahead of us. We will spend some time this week discussing the lives of President George Washington and President Abrham Lincoln.

looking Ahead...

  • Wednesday, February 21st - All School Mass at 9:30 in the Church 
  • Friday, February 22nd - Arupe Marketplace: Please send in small dollar bills ($1s, or $5s) so that students can shop. We will be shopping with our Preschool buddies. 
  • Next, Saturday, March 2nd - Funfest 
  • Friday, April 12th - Stations of the Cross - The Fourth graders will pray the Stations of the Cross for the entire school community at 9:30 in the morning in the Church. It is a very special occasion and we invite all parents and family members. Please note that this is the Friday before Spring break, so if for for some reason you will not be at school this day, we need to know. Each child has a role in this prayer, so we will adjust if they will not be here on the actual day. 
English Language Arts 

We are takings a break from our Journey's text to read about our President's, focus on grammar, and work on a writing project. 

Grammar - We will work on Adjectives and Adverbs. 

Writing - We will be writing a poem all about a President. Students will research facts about a President's life and use it within their poem. 

A friendly reminder that the Cereal Box book project on an influential African American is due next Thursday, February 28th. 

Social Studies

Students will continue to work on their group Google Slides Early People project. 

Math 

We are doing double-digit by double-digit multiplication using the standard algorithm. We will also be taking the end of module assessment at the end of the week. 

Science

We are finishing the Circuit Quiz Board as the assessment for the lab. 

Religion 

We are starting the Ten Commandments, and the focus this week is the first three.

Happy Birthday Arizona!

Good Morning!

Wishing you lots of love this week and always! On Thursday, February 14th, we will celebrate Valentine's Day by having students pass out valentines to their friends, but in addition, we will celebrate Arizona's 107th birthday! 

Looking Ahead...
  • Wednesday, February 13th - 3rd to 5th Mass at Brophy (4th grade is leading)
  • Thursday, February 14th - Arizona's Birthday Party @ 1:45
  • Friday, February 15th - Fr. Joe will be joining the Fourth Graders as a guest speaker

English Language Arts



All the students have a modified spelling list this week. We are reviewing commonly misspelled words from previous lists. There will be a test on Thursday, February 14th. 

Grammar - We will continue to look at Irregular Verbs and have a quiz on them on Wednesday, February 13th. 

We will then move into talking about Adjectives and how they make us better writers.

Reading - Our skill focus this week is on comparing and contrasting. We will work on some in-class activities that will take the place of a quiz grade.

Social Studies

Happy Birthday to our beautiful state of Arizona! The students are just about done creating their birthday cards. They turned out amazing! We will move into working on our Google Slides projects, which is done in groups and on the topic of The Early People of Arizona.

Math

We are moving on to double-digit by double-digit multiplication. The strategies we are starting with are the area model and partial product.

The x8s quiz will be next week.

Science

We are still in the Energy unit and this week are learning about Electricity.

Geometry

We are identifying and constructing perpendicular lines and parallel lines.

Religion 

We are going to focus on the Spiritual Works of Mercy.

Celebrating Black History Month

As we enter into February, the students will be reading about and learning about many influential African Americans who left a positive impact on our world.

English Language Arts



There will be a spelling test on Thursday, February 7th. 4B students were rewarded with a no homework pass, so this week they do not have spelling homework. 

Grammar - We will be looking at Irregular Verbs.

Reading - Our focus this week is on Main Idea and Details. There will be a test on Friday, February 8th. 

Social Studies

We will begin to design our Arizona Birthday Cards.

Our vocabulary quiz on the words in Ch. 3 has BEEN MOVED to THURSDAY. 

Math

We are continuing to work with Division. Now our problems are 4 digit by 1 digit. The students are using the standard algorithm and checking their work by using multiplication.

Science

I am going to split my teaching time in Science by teaching a Geometry unit this next trimester. So, next week we will have a separate tab for Geometry.

In Science, we are doing Energy. This investigation is the Energy of Sound.

In Geometry, we are covering the concepts of point, line, line segment, ray, and angles.

Religion 

We are studying the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. We will also prepare to lead Mass at Brophy Chapel next Wednesday.
